"Skipping Stones" is the second of my short stories about how we're all characters on a stage, not in control of our life's events.
These are some of the memories and characters I knew when I went to Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY.
Auburn was a learning ground of life and death. Living in a one-room boarding house with no heat, I learned some of the hard knocks of surviving in Auburn. Auburn has the NY State prison in the middle of the city. As a blue-collar Genesee beer-drinking town, I experienced hardened characters on the streets.
This story is my second piece of fiction. Auburn and my love for the finger lakes made this story. I'll never forget those days, and there are many days I wish to forget.
